Umeå-born pianist Arne Forsén is known as an outstanding jazz and improv musician, with a rare ability to find surprising depths in the music and in his instrument.
Arne likes to move in the borderlands between different genres and expression styles. Apart from jazz and free improvisation he also delves deep into Swedish traditional music and the music of West Africa, with classical music and in collaboration with dance, visual arts and theatre.
But tonight there will be traditional music! Because Arne Forsén is releasing his new CD 'Visa från Dorotea' right here at Umefolk, with Swedish traditional music interpreted on the piano. An awaited release that's been in the mind of the winner of the 1987 Jan Johansson Scholarship for about 30 years. The repertoire is above all built on tunes from Västerbotten, many of which Arne learned from his many years playing music together with fiddler Sören Johansson from Dorotea.
